A 52-year-old man, Salihu Byezhe, tragically passed away after collapsing during the early morning (Subhi) prayers at a mosque in Gudaba village, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Thursday after Byezhe had completed his pre-dawn meal (Sahur), performed ablution, and joined fellow worshippers for prayers.
Musa Dantani, a resident of Gudaba who was present at the scene, described how Byezhe suddenly slumped mid-prayer.
“While prayers were in progress, he suddenly collapsed. Some worshippers immediately rushed to support him and transported him to the hospital. He was still breathing on the way, but sadly, he passed away upon arrival,” Dantani recounted.
A doctor at the hospital in Kuje later confirmed Byezhe’s death, attributing it to complications from high blood pressure. Reports indicate that he had been managing the condition, which may have worsened during the morning prayers.
One of Byezhe’s sons, who was also present in the mosque, accompanied those who rushed him to the hospital and was there when the doctor pronounced him dead.
His funeral was held in accordance with Islamic rites, and he was laid to rest at approximately 10:12 a.m. on Thursday.
