Driver Violates One-Way, Knocks Down Police Inspector Near National Mosque

According to a security source, the accident took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. when the driver, identified as David Auta, was operating a Toyota Hummer Bus (Reg. No. FKJ 527 CW). Auta reportedly disregarded traffic laws and took an illegal one-way route from the National Christian Center toward Wuse Zone 4, a stretch where violations have been frequently reported.
During his dangerous maneuver, Auta’s speeding vehicle collided with Inspector James Haruna, a police officer conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at Gate 1 of the National Mosque. The impact was severe, causing Inspector Haruna to be thrown to the ground, sustaining multiple bruises and a fractured left leg. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with officers and bystanders rushing to assist the injured inspector.
Immediately following the accident, fellow officers and emergency responders provided first aid before transporting Inspector Haruna to the National Hospital, Abuja. Medical professionals at the hospital confirmed that the officer suffered a fracture in his left leg and several contusions, but his condition is currently stable. He remains under medical supervision as doctors assess the extent of his injuries and determine the next course of treatment.
“The officer is in stable condition, but he will require extensive care and rehabilitation to recover fully,” a medical source at the hospital stated.
In response to the incident, law enforcement officers at the scene swiftly apprehended David Auta and took him into custody. His Toyota Hummer Bus was impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.
