School Sports Festival 2025 Kicks Off in FCT

The second edition of the ‘Nyesom Wike Renewed Hope School Sports Festival 2025’ has officially commenced, uniting gifted young athletes from across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and youth empowerment.

Director of the Department of School Sports under the Education Secretariat, Malam Hashimu Adamu, expressed enthusiasm for this year’s festival, which promises to be an extraordinary showcase of talent, featuring competitions among public and private schools across primary, junior, and senior secondary levels.

This year’s festival will highlight a diverse array of sporting events, including track events such as the 100m, 200m, 400m, relays, and long-distance races. Field events will also be prominent, featuring high jump, long jump, shot put, and javelin, along with team sports like football, volleyball, basketball, and handball.

Additionally, participants can engage in board games such as Chess and Scrabble, alongside traditional games like Ayo and Ludo.

The preliminary competitions will take place at zonal levels from February 3 to 14, culminating in a grand finale scheduled for February 24 to 27 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

Malam Adamu emphasized the critical role sports play in shaping young minds, urging sports enthusiasts and stakeholders committed to youth and community development to actively participate and support the festival. He also encouraged corporate sponsorship to ensure the festival’s success and sustainability.
