FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has presented staff of office to four new appointed graded chiefs in the Federal Capital Territory.
The presentation is coming after the demise of former chiefs that made the stools vacant and the appointments of new chiefs.
The newly sworn-in Traditional Rulers include two second class chiefs and two third class chiefs, who are HRH Joseph Danfulani Narai, JP (Sa’Karuyi of Karu) and HRH Luka Ayedoo Nizassan III (Etsu Kwali).
Others who are third class chiefs are HRH Alh. Abubakar Sani Pai (Sarkin Pai) and HRH Alh. Aliyu Yakubu (Etsu of Yaba).
Addressing the chiefs after swearing-in, presentation of staff and certificates of office to the new chiefs, Wike said the event was to do what was necessary to reach out to the grassroots in line with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.
Decrying that the stools had been vacant before he came in, the Minister noted that traditional rulers have significant role to play by virtue of their nearness to the people at the grassroots.
Pledging to provide them with necessary support to succeed, the Minister charged the traditional leaders to sell government policies to the people, because the people would believe them.
“We’ll support you to succeed. If there is anything you need, tell us”, he promised.
The Minister commended protesters over staging peaceful protests; stressing that it was better to dialogue and maintain peace during protests.
He appealed to all Nigerians to be patient and give President Bola Tinubu more time to improve the economy.
Also speaking at the occasion, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, commended the traditional institution for its support and commitment to the preservation of our rich cultural heritage.
Mahmoud, particularly appreciated the FCT Minister for “cascading the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of Mr. President to our traditional rulers”.
Corroborating Wike on the vital role of the traditional rulers, she said: “The presentation of the Staff of Office is a testament to your esteemed roles and the respect you command. We trust that you will continue to lead with wisdom and integrity”.
