The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has debunked the news claiming that the Wupa Sewer Treatment Plant collapsed, saying that the Plant is working at full capacity.

The Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, (AMMC), Chief Felix Amaechi Obuah, who paid an unscheduled visit to Plant, Tuesday, debunked the news report; describing it as misleading and fake.

According to him, “the story purportedly published by Peoples Gazette, an online medium, alleging the collapse of a major sewage treatment plant in Federal Capital Territory is false and a fake news”.

After touring all the sections of the main sewage treatment plant and Dump site at Wupa and Gousa respectively, Obuah said, “I woke up this morning Tuesday to read a disturbing misinformation in the form of a story that the main sewage treatment plant in the FCT has collapsed. I quickly called the Director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board to ascertain whether the story was true but he told me it was not true.”

His words: “I decided to come unannounced to Wupa Treatment Plant at Gosa to see things myself; and I can tell you from what I have seen this morning that all the sections of the Plant are working perfectly. Every staff and hands are all working at their duty posts. There is no breakdown anywhere around the Plant nor any leakage of a main sewage line in the city of Abuja. There is no leakage anywhere.”

He advised the residents of the Federal Capital Territory not to panic; saying “Abuja is one City that maintenance of critical infrastructures and observance of standards is top notch and so, we all should be proud of what we have.”

“The workers of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board are experts in the management of wastes and that is why no cholera outbreak case has been recorded in the FCT as is obtainable in some States of the Federation. Abuja is one city we all should be proud of as critical infrastructures are managed by experts, who are well trained. Nobody should, therefore, panic,” the Coordinator said.

He expressed satisfaction with what he saw at the treatment plant; saying the publication making the rounds is just the work of mischief makers. What was published this morning is the activity of mischief makers who just want to create panic where there is none in a bid to discredit an Administration and portray some persons in bad light, because someone wants to be noticed or score cheap popularity.

Obuah called on residents to disregard the story and go about their normal businesses as there is no leakage anywhere and no pollution or cholera outbreak will take place.
