FCTA Trains Staff On Emergency Disaster Response

To build capacity and improve service delivery, the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has trained fifty members of its staff and volunteers on emergency disaster response.

The training tagged “Disaster Response Simulation Exercise (DRSE)” includes lessons on water safety, water rescue, building collapse, and fire outbreaks.

Speaking after the Two-Day training exercise in Abuja, Friday, the Acting Director-General of FEMD, Florence Wenegieme, said the simulation exercise was organized to enhance the capacity of the staff and volunteers.

Her words: “This simulation exercise and drills are to build our capacity in terms of rescue operations of any kind and that is why we are here to do the water rescue. At the same time, the Paramedics will be trained”.

She noted that the training exercise is aimed at equipping the staff and volunteers in the discharge their duties in line with global best practices.

The DG revealed that, it is part of the traditions of the Department to train her staff on quarterly basis; emphasizing that it is pertinent for the staff to align with the new and improved techniques regularly reeled out by the United Nations General Assembly and to operate accurately, employing modern equipments needed for emergency rescue operations.
