The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) has inducted student ambassadors in Abuja to champion Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities in schools and communities.

The ambassadors will conduct handwashing demonstrations, promote healthy habits, and encourage their peers to join hygiene clubs.

Speaking at the event, WBFA’s Director of Programming and Reporting, Dr. Osinachi Onyeoziri—represented by Mr. Kelvin Agagbe, State Programme Lead—said the initiative aims to instill lifelong hygiene habits among young people.

“The goal is for ambassadors to lead hygiene demonstrations in their schools and encourage peers to practice handwashing at school, home, or anywhere they find themselves,” he explained, noting that improved hygiene reduces infections, keeps children in school, and lowers families’ medical costs.

Mr. Azaki Rabo from the Department of Environment, Kuje Area Council, highlighted the shared duty of building healthier communities, while the District Head of Kuchigbu, Mr. Japhet Luka, praised the ambassadors as role models for sustainable hygiene advocacy.

The ceremony ended with a spelling bee competition, where Green Herald School won the primary category and Junior Secondary School Dafa clinched the secondary title.
