The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of 17 candidates cleared to contest in the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections.
The announcement was made by Mr Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
Olumekun explained that the publication came after the expiration of the statutory period for withdrawal and substitution of candidates, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act. He stressed that the move reflects INEC’s commitment to transparency and its duty to keep the public fully informed ahead of the polls.
The final list, which covers both chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the six area councils of the FCT, has been displayed at INEC offices and uploaded on the commission’s website for public access.
With campaigns now in full swing, INEC urged political parties and their supporters to abide by electoral rules while reiterating its readiness to deliver a free, fair, and credible election for residents of the nation’s capital.
