Wike Reassures River Park Abuja Residents on Property Rights

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has assured homeowners in Abuja’s River Park Estate that their properties are secure and will not be seized by the government.

During a visit to the estate on September 20, 2025, Wike clarified that the recent Abuja demolitions carried out by the FCTA Department of Development Control only targeted illegal structures, not legitimate homes.

He explained that the land was originally leased to Ghanaian firm Jonah AD more than 20 years ago, but the company unlawfully transferred rights to Paulo Homes, which had no valid agreement with the FCTA. Since the lease has expired, the Administration will now issue fresh Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) directly to River Park Abuja residents who built homes on the land.

“Claims that the FCTA is taking people’s property are false. We are here to protect genuine homeowners and ensure compliance with Abuja land regulations,” Wike said. He warned that any new construction without approval is illegal and at the owner’s risk.

Wike stressed that Abuja real estate remains a priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring residents that property rights will be protected while illegal developments are removed.

Earlier in the day, the Minister inspected the N5 Arterial Road (Obafemi Awolowo Way) project and later attended the funeral of Mrs. Grace Adayilo, the late FCTA Head of Civil Service.

This reassurance offers confidence to River Park Estate homeowners and strengthens Abuja’s real estate market, as the FCTA moves to regularize property titles and maintain order in land administration.
