FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday begin another round of infrastructure projects in Abuja, with plans to flag off the construction of 12 new roads and roll out solar-powered streetlights across major districts and highways under the Light Up Abuja Programme.
The minister will also commission newly completed roads, Esther Bali Street and Kez Udezue Street, in Mabushi, along with access roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District.
According to his media aide, Lere Olayinka, the new projects will be launched in phases between September 18 and October 16. They include road networks in Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, CBD, Airport Expressway, Katampe, Garki, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Guzape, as well as major arterial routes linking districts of the Federal Capital City.
Also on the list are erosion control works with bridges in Kaura District, a transit way linking Central Area to Wuse, rehabilitation of the old Keffi Road, and access roads to the Renewed Hope Cities project in Karsana West. Official residences for heads of federal courts will also be built.
The rollout comes on the heels of Wike’s recent projects, including the expansion of water supply to satellite towns, a new sports centre in Kafe, a Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and the emergency reconstruction of Karu Road.
