The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Social Development Secretariat, Ms. Olubunmi Olowokere, has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among all sectors to effectively combat poverty in Nigeria.

Speaking during the ongoing rollout of the Household Prosperity and Empowerment Programme under the National Social Investment Programme Agency, Olowokere said that government bodies, NGOs, traditional and religious institutions, private sector players, and grassroots organizations must all play active roles in the fight against poverty.

She described the programme’s theme, “More Beta Don Come,” as more than a slogan, calling it a message of renewed hope and real transformation. According to her, the federal government remains committed to improving the lives of millions of vulnerable Nigerians.

Olowokere pointed out that poverty, joblessness, and social exclusion are not just figures but everyday challenges for many citizens.

The FCT Social Investment Programme Focal Person, Hajia Maijidda Adamu Kuku, explained that the initiative aims to support families, empower communities, and promote sustainable development. She described HPEP as a grassroots-focused programme designed to boost household resilience, improve livelihoods, and ensure no one is left behind.

She appreciated the efforts of government agencies, development partners, civil society groups, and private sector players for their continued support of household empowerment goals.

The Project Manager of the National Cash Transfer Programme, Mr. Atabo Philip, also spoke at the event, stating that the purpose of the engagement meeting was to align stakeholders, clarify responsibilities, and gather feedback for better programme delivery.
