In a determined move to curb human trafficking, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) held a public awareness walk on Monday, July 28, 2025, across key locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The awareness campaign, led by NAPTIP’s Director General, Hajiya Binta Bello, began at the Old Parade Ground and concluded at the Unity Fountain. Staff members of the agency engaged directly with the public, distributing flyers and educational materials that highlighted the dangers of human trafficking and offered practical advice on how to identify and report suspected cases.
Speaking with journalists after the event, Hajiya Bello emphasized that the walk was part of a broader effort to empower the public with knowledge and prevent people from falling victim to traffickers’ deceitful tactics. She described the campaign as both a call to action for citizens and a warning to traffickers.
“This walk is a strong message to traffickers NAPTIP is watching, and we are intensifying efforts to dismantle trafficking networks,” she said.
The walk is one of several activities planned by NAPTIP to mark the 2025 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, celebrated annually on July 30. This year’s theme, “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime End the Exploitation,” underscores the growing links between trafficking and international criminal syndicates.
NAPTIP reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating human trafficking through public education, inter-agency collaboration, and enforcement of the law.
