Abuja, Nigeria – Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja today to face charges bordering on alleged cyberbullying, stalking, and spreading false information against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The case, filed by the Federal Government, accuses Sowore of using online platforms to harass and circulate damaging claims against the President.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and outspoken critic of the government, arrived at the court amid tight security. The hearing attracted attention from civil society groups, journalists, and political observers, many of whom see the case as a test of free speech in Nigeria’s democracy.

While the prosecution insists that Sowore violated Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act, his supporters argue that the charges are politically motivated and aimed at silencing dissent.

The matter has been adjourned for further hearing, with Sowore expected to take his plea on the charges.
