Baseball and softball in Nigeria received a major boost as the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation (NBSF) secured 260 gloves to promote grassroots development, with part of the equipment earmarked for the Federal Capital Territory.
The donation was made by Japanese sports firm Majerick and presented in Abuja by Manato Sato, who praised Nigeria’s growing interest in the sport and expressed hope it would support Olympic qualification efforts.
NBSF President Uche Odozor described the gesture as timely, noting Abuja’s role as a hub for baseball and softball in Africa. He said the donation will energise preparations for the WBSC World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games and reaffirmed efforts to introduce the sport in Federal Unity Schools and Nigerian universities.
Agbor Clinton, representing the Forum for Past and Present Chairmen of FCT Sports Associations, commended the donors and highlighted the partnership’s role in transforming sports in Abuja.
