
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, led a rescue operation in Kobi village near Asokoro, where two kidnapped women were freed after a gun battle with armed men.
Adewale moved to the scene with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, the Assistant Commissioner of Police heading the Rapid Response Squad and the Divisional Police Officer of Asokoro Division.
The kidnappers opened fire when they saw the police and tried to use the two women as human shields. The officers chased them and rescued the victims unharmed.
Two members of the local vigilante who joined the operation were shot. They were taken to the National Hospital, where one was confirmed dead and the other is still receiving treatment.
The Commissioner praised the courage of the officers and sent condolences to the family of the vigilante who lost his life.
