The Federal Government has dismissed sabotage in the recent Abuja-Kaduna train derailment, assuring that rail services will continue safely.will continue safely.will continue safely.will continue safely.will continue safely. Across the country, remain safe.
Minister of Transportation, Senator Saidu Ahmed Alkali, gave the assurance in Abuja while addressing journalists alongside the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Kayode Opeifa.
The minister also apologised to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) following the reported mistreatment of Comrade Ladi Bala, former President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), who was denied access while covering the incident.
On the derailment, Alkali explained that the “point machine” on the Abuja–Kaduna line had been repaired and that no similar incidents had occurred since then. He added that investigations into the derailment are ongoing, emphasizing the need to await the outcome of the probe before drawing any conclusions.
A point machine is a device that controls railway switches by moving and locking track blades to direct trains safely, with modern systems fitted with sensors to confirm blade positions.
