The Federal Government is providing free reading glasses to tackle presbyopia among FCT residents aged 40 and above under the “Effective Spectacle Coverage in Nigeria Jigi Bola Phase II” initiative.
Led by the Federal Ministry of Health with FCT Area Councils, the programme includes free eye screening and customised spectacles. It began in Abaji in March and has reached AMAC and Bwari, with Mpape next.
While many praised the project, some called for broader eye checks. For beneficiaries like Thomas Auta, who struggled to read for years, it has been life-changing.
The initiative is part of a nationwide effort to boost eye health and provide five million pairs of glasses to Nigerians.
