
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has suspended its nationwide warning strike, which began on July 29, 2025, over demands for better pay and working conditions.
The week-long strike disrupted services at hospitals across Abuja, Lagos, Bayelsa, Kano, and other parts of Nigeria, with many outpatient departments shut down.
Talks initially broke down after Health Minister Prof. Ali Pate missed a key meeting, prompting the union to demand written commitments. However, fresh discussions on August 1 led to a resolution.
Following the renewed talks, the union agreed to suspend the strike before the earlier August 5 deadline. The federal government had appealed to the union, noting that many of the demands required no extra spending
