FCT Minister Wike Donates Academic Chairs, Urges Alumni to Support Universities
The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has called on Nigerians to give back to their alma maters, highlighting their role in shaping future leaders. He made this appeal during the University of Port Harcourt’s 35th convocation and 50th anniversary, where he was honoured with a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Political Science.
Wike announced plans to endow two academic chairs at UNIPORT—one in Family and Child Law (in honour of his wife) and another in Leadership and Public Administration. He also highlighted his past contributions to UNIPORT, Rivers State University, the Nigerian Law School, and the Body of Benchers.
The Minister praised President Bola Tinubu’s support for education through NELFUND and land approval for UNIPORT’s leadership centre in Abuja.
Dignitaries including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Fintiri, and Bello Masari also received honorary degrees at the event.
