Medical doctors under the umbrella of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have officially ended their three-month-long industrial action after the intervention of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The decision to suspend the strike was disclosed in a statement issued by the association’s chairman, Dr. Okoreaffia Ogbonnaya, who expressed appreciation to the minister for his proactive engagement in resolving the issues that led to the action. He noted that the commencement of payments for outstanding salaries and allowances played a key role in restoring confidence among the affected doctors.
The strike was initially declared in response to the non-payment of entitlements and other unresolved welfare-related matters affecting medical personnel under the Area Council Service Commission.
Following the resolution, members have been directed to resume duties without delay.
The association also reaffirmed its commitment to constructive dialogue with the FCT Administration and Area Council Chairmen to ensure that all outstanding obligations are fully settled. It further commended Minister Wike for his leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of healthcare professionals across the territory.
