Court Declares Former Senate President Ameh Ebute Owner of Disputed Wuye Land
The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has declared former Senate President Ameh Ebute as the rightful owner of a contested plot of land in Wuye District, ending a legal dispute that lasted 25 years.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Maryanne Anenih nullified the allocation of the same land to Emmanuel Okereke, a former FCDA Director, declaring it illegal since the property had already been lawfully assigned to Ebute on September 25, 1993.
The dispute arose when the FCDA allocated the same plot marked L346 to Okereke on October 22, 1993, sparking years of litigation. Ebute had approached the court in 2001, seeking to affirm his title and stop any interference with the property.
While Okereke argued he obtained the land legally and sought N100 million in damages, the court ruled in Ebute’s favor, issuing a perpetual injunction against both the FCDA and Okereke from encroaching on the land.
