The burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed to Tuesday, July 15, 2025. This was confirmed by Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, during a press briefing on Monday.
According to the governor, Buhari’s remains are expected to arrive in Katsina by midday Tuesday, before being taken to his hometown of Daura for interment at 2 p.m. in line with Islamic rites.
The change in burial date follows Sunday’s announcement of the former president’s passing in a London clinic, where he had been receiving treatment.
Governor Radda earlier declared Monday a public holiday in Katsina State in honour of the late leader, while President Bola Tinubu ordered flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days as a mark of respect.
Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, is remembered for his military background, anti-corruption stance, and influence on the country’s political landscape. His passing has drawn condolences from leaders across Nigeria and beyond.
