A Federal Capital Territory High Court has sealed the Abuja regional office of Keystone Bank after the bank failed to obey a court order to pay ₦202.8 million to one of its customers, Agricultural Productivity Enhancement Limited (AGROPRO LTD).

The enforcement, carried out in the bank’s Central Business District location, followed a judgment ordering the bank to release the customer’s fixed deposit and accrued interest funds it had withheld since 2021 without a valid court order.

AGROPRO’s lawyer, Victor Abakpa, hailed the move as a major win for bank customers, saying it sends a strong message that banks can’t act above the law. “When banks begin to act like judges over customer funds, they breach trust,” he said.

The Court of Appeal had earlier upheld the lower court’s ruling, dismissing Keystone’s claim that the funds were linked to a CBN scheme, which was found to be unrelated.

With the bank’s doors now sealed, the court’s message is clear: contracts must be honoured, and banks that flout the law will be held accountable.
