The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has suspended Everestus Chinedu Ugwuowo, an Abuja-based lawyer, from practicing law for five years over a ₦29 million property fraud.

The decision followed a petition by Grace Dauda, who paid Ugwuowo for a four-bedroom house in Gwarinpa, Abuja, in 2017. Investigations revealed Ugwuowo had no legal authority to sell the property and failed to either deliver the house or refund the money until just last month.

The LPDC, led by former FCT Chief Judge Justice Ishaq Bello, found him guilty of professional misconduct and described his actions as “infamous conduct.” Ugwuowo was also ordered to refund the ₦29 million within 30 days.

The ruling will be published in The PUNCH and the Federal Gazette, with the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court directed to update the Roll of Legal Practitioners accordingly.
