Housing Minister Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa has pledged full support for the proposed ‘FCT NUJ Journalists’ Village’ during a meeting with FCT NUJ leadership led by Chairman Grace Ike.
The Minister promised that the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) will support the housing project through a cooperative scheme, with journalists able to pay for homes over 30 years.
However, Dangiwa emphasized that NUJ must first secure titled land and housing designs before government assistance can begin. “Once you get a titled land and housing design, bring it to us. We’ll help build affordable homes for journalists through FMBN,” he said.
The initiative falls under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which includes:
- Renewed Hope Cities: 1,000+ homes in major cities
- Renewed Hope Estates: 250 homes per state capital for middle-income earners
- Renewed Hope Social Housing: 100 homes per local council for low-income families and disabled persons
NUJ Chairman Grace Ike praised the Minister and President Tinubu for their commitment to affordable housing, noting that Nigerians in diaspora can also participate in the mortgage schemes.
