
The Federal Government has disbursed ₦8.6 billion in pension arrears to 148,625 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), fulfilling a major part of its promise to senior citizens.
The announcement was made by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), which confirmed that the payment covered outstanding balances from the ₦32,000 monthly pension adjustment approved in 2024.
Breakdown of the disbursement shows that:
- ₦5.7bn was paid to 59,342 parastatal retirees,
- ₦2.3bn went to 71,084 civil service pensioners,
- ₦310m to 9,579 retired police personnel,
- ₦276m to 8,620 retirees from Customs, Immigration, and Correctional Services.
PTAD Executive Secretary, Dr. Tolulope Oduniyi, said the payment reaffirms the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its senior citizens in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The directorate also noted that the latest disbursement completes the pension arrears for the 2024 increment, adding that efforts are ongoing to ensure retirees continue receiving their entitlements without delay.
