As part of preparations for the upcoming FCT Area Council elections, the Labour Party has organized a public debate for candidates vying for the chairmanship of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The event, held on Friday in Abuja, brought together aspirants from various wards under the Labour Party platform to present their manifestos and engage with residents on pressing local governance issues.

The debate focused on key topics such as grassroots development, revenue generation, youth empowerment, healthcare, education, and security.

Speaking at the event, the FCT Labour Party Chairman, Comrade Ezekiel Tanko, said the initiative was aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and issue-based campaigns.

“This debate gives our candidates a platform to directly connect with the people and demonstrate their readiness to lead. It also strengthens internal democracy within the party,” he stated.

Residents and stakeholders who attended the event commended the party for setting the pace for democratic engagement and urged other political platforms to follow suit.

The AMAC chairmanship seat remains one of the most hotly contested positions in the FCT Area Council elections, given its strategic importance in Nigeria’s capital city.

As campaigns heat up, the Labour Party says it is committed to ensuring only credible and community-oriented candidates fly its flag in the February 2026 elections.
