FG Kicks Off 2025 TVET Entrance Exams in Abuja, Nationwide
The Federal Government has officially commenced the 2025 entrance examinations for admission into Federal Technical Colleges across the country, marking a major stride in its commitment to vocational education and youth empowerment.
The announcement was made by the Registrar/CEO of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, who supervised the process at the Federal Technical College, Orozo, Abuja, on Saturday. Over 30,000 candidates are said to be participating in the nationwide exams.
Describing the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme as a catalyst for national development, Dr. Mohammed emphasized its role in equipping Nigerian youths with practical, hands-on skills that align with industry needs.
“This examination goes beyond screening candidates. It helps us discover individual strengths and match them to relevant trades whether it’s tailoring, electrical installation, or solar technology,” he said.
Dr. Mohammed stressed that TVET is part of a broader government initiative to reduce reliance on imported labour and boost local expertise. According to him, despite Nigeria’s youth population, basic jobs in the construction sector like POP and tile installations are still outsourced to foreign workers due to skill gaps.
“The construction sector alone holds immense potential. With the right training, our youth can take over these roles and build stable careers,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of certification, stating that trust and professionalism hinge on verifiable qualifications, especially in critical projects like Nigeria’s ongoing gas pipeline infrastructure.
The programme will offer training courses ranging from six months to a year. Upon completion, successful trainees will receive starter packs and could benefit from government-supported loan schemes to help launch their businesses.
“This is not just training it’s a full empowerment package: from skills acquisition to certification and startup support,” Dr. Mohammed said.
He assured the public that a transparent admission process would be overseen by a selection committee made up of school principals, NABTEB representatives, and officials from the Federal Ministry of Education.
Results of the examination are expected to be released within three weeks, and the board plans to fully digitize the process registration to result delivery by next year.
The launch underscores the government’s renewed focus on vocational education as a strategic solution to youth unemployment and economic self-reliance.
