The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has opened an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media, which shows a man accusing police officers of harassment during a patrol stop.

In a statement released on Friday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that initial inquiries trace the incident to June 4, 2025, around 1:00 PM.

According to Adeh, a patrol unit from the Kubwa Area Command was conducting routine surveillance near the Chikakore Bridge an area flagged for heightened security monitoring—when they noticed a stationary vehicle parked suspiciously along FO1 Chikakore Road for over 20 minutes.

“When the officers approached the car, they found two men inside. In the process of verifying their identities and purpose, one of the men reportedly became aggressive, resisted questioning, and accused the officers of harassment,” she explained.

The confrontation quickly drew attention and was captured in a video that later spread widely online, sparking public criticism of the police.

Reacting to the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, has summoned the officers involved for questioning. The command has also initiated internal disciplinary processes in line with standard protocol.

SP Adeh urged the individuals seen in the video to formally report to the police and provide statements to assist the investigation and clarify events.

She reiterated the command’s commitment to professionalism and transparent policing, calling on members of the public with useful information to contact the Public Relations Officer via 07038979348.

“The FCT Police remains dedicated to integrity and respectful public engagement,” Adeh assured.
