The Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Francis John, has warned staff against misconduct, particularly trafficking, during an inspection of custodial centres in the FCT.
The tour, which began on January 8, 2024, covered facilities in Kuje, Dukpa, Suleja, Karshi, and the Juvenile Deradicalisation Centre. At each stop, John urged officers to remain diligent, avoid absenteeism and extortion, and uphold discipline.
While commending staff for maintaining order, he praised the sacrifices of security personnel at Kuje and assured them of his support.
Addressing inmates, John encouraged them to remain hopeful and make use of educational and vocational programs as part of their rehabilitation.
John took over from Ibrahim Idris on December 29, 2023, following Idris’s promotion to Assistant Controller General of Corrections. The inspection comes amid continued security reinforcement after the July 2022 Kuje jailbreak.
