Police launch manhunt for suspected abuser of maid in Abuja
The FCT Police Command has launched a manhunt for a woman accused of abusing a 14-year-old housemaid in Abuja.
The search follows a viral video showing the girl, Bashariya from Zamfara State, recounting how she was regularly starved, beaten, and burned while working as a domestic worker. The footage revealed lash marks and burn scars on her body.
Bashariya’s family had fled bandit attacks in Zamfara and were living in an IDP camp before she was brought to Abuja to work as a housemaid.
FCT Police Commissioner Adewale Ajao has ordered all divisional officers to urgently locate and arrest the woman responsible for the abuse.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the directive, stating that the commissioner strongly condemns child abuse and emphasizes that no child should suffer such cruelty.
The case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for justice and stricter child protection enforcement.
