
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced that Abuja and many other parts of Nigeria will experience rain and thunderstorms for three days from Sunday, June 9 to Tuesday, June 11, 2025.
In Abuja, areas like Gwagwalada, Bwari, and the city center will see cloudy mornings followed by heavy rain and thunderstorms later in the day.
NiMet also said that northern states such as Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, Adamawa, and Bauchi should expect similar weather, with rain and strong winds.
In the North-Central region including Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Benue, and Plateau there will be light rain in the morning and heavier rain in the afternoon and evening.
Southern states like Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Bayelsa, and others will also have showers, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall.
NiMet advised everyone to take precautions:
- Stay indoors during thunderstorms
- Avoid standing under trees
- Unplug electrical items to avoid lightning damage
- Be careful on the roads
The agency also asked airline operators and drivers to check weather updates before traveling.
NiMet said the warning is to help keep people safe during the rainy season.
