What began as an ordinary evening turned tragic on Tuesday when a Coca-Cola delivery truck lost control and plowed into multiple vehicles near Nyanya Bridge, leaving one person dead and two others fighting for their lives.

The crash happened around 6:30 p.m., reportedly after the truck suffered brake failure, veering off the road and smashing into a row of vehicles, including a parked construction truck. Among those caught in the chaos were three members of the same family. One didn’t make it.

In a stroke of luck, a female customs officer narrowly escaped death when her car was crushed in the collision, but the truck drivers involved walked away unharmed.

Emergency responders from FEMD, FRSC, and the FCT Police arrived quickly, pulling survivors from the wreckage. The injured were rushed to National Hospital, where doctors say they are responding well to treatment. The deceased was later handed over to his devastated family by the joint rescue team.

Reacting to the incident, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, Acting DG of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, expressed deep sorrow and issued a stark reminder:

“Drivers must stay alert and maintain their vehicles properly. One moment of neglect can cost lives.”

He also urged residents to dial 112, the toll-free emergency number, for rapid help in any crisis.

This crash is yet another in a growing list of road disasters at Nyanya Bridge, raising urgent questions about enforcement and safety on Abuja’s roads.
