The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken decisive action by sealing the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) office located in Zone 5, Abuja, over a staggering 25-year backlog in ground rent payments.

According to reliable sources, the FIRS facility was sealed earlier today following a directive from the FCTA authorities as part of ongoing enforcement against defaulting property owners across the capital city.

Officials confirmed that the office had not remitted ground rent dues for more than two decades, prompting the administration to take enforcement action.

The move is part of the FCTA’s broader campaign to recover billions of naira in unpaid ground rents from both public and private institutions.

Senior officials say the long-standing debt poses a major challenge to infrastructure development and service delivery in the capital.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach FIRS representatives for comments were unsuccessful.

However, the FCTA has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring full compliance with all statutory obligations, regardless of the status of defaulters.More details to follow.
