Police Arrest Four Minors Over Iron Rod Theft in Guzape, Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has taken four young boys into custody for allegedly removing and stealing iron rods from an uncompleted building in Guzape, Abuja.
The suspects Matthew Vincent and Timothy Shedrack, both 15 years old; Moses Vincent, 11; and Lucky Enoch were apprehended after concerned residents reported unusual nighttime activity and suspicious movements around the property.
Investigations revealed that the boys entered the site by scaling the fence and used improvised tools to dismantle parts of the structure. They reportedly sold the stolen materials to a scrap dealer popularly known as ‘Babanbola,’ who is now being traced by authorities as part of a suspected wider network involved in stolen building materials.
Commenting on the development, FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu advised parents and guardians to monitor their children’s behavior more closely and guide them away from unlawful acts.
He also urged construction site owners to take proactive security measures, such as hiring guards and installing surveillance systems, to deter theft and vandalism.
Disu assured the public that the underage suspects would be placed in juvenile rehabilitation facilities, while adults linked to the crime would face appropriate legal action.
