A Federal High Court in Abuja has threatened to strike out the case involving the 2014 Nyanya bombing if the prosecution fails to show greater commitment to the trial.
Justice Emeka Nwite issued the warning following repeated delays and the absence of key witnesses in the terrorism case, which has dragged on for over a decade. He stressed that justice must not be denied to the victims or the accused due to prosecutorial lapses.
The bombing, which occurred at a bus terminal in Nyanya, Abuja, claimed over 70 lives and injured scores, marking one of the deadliest terror attacks in the country.
The suspects have been in custody for years, with their trial experiencing multiple setbacks due to administrative and procedural issues.
The judge urged the prosecution to ensure all necessary steps are taken to proceed without further delay, warning that the court would not allow indefinite postponement.
The case was adjourned to a later date for continuation of trial.
