A major meeting of key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was held on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, amid efforts to reunite the party and strategize for the 2027 general elections.

The closed-door session was convened by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and brought together several serving and former governors, as well as other senior party stakeholders.

Among the attendees were Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Dan Orbih, the PDP’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South. Also present were prominent former governors such as Donald Duke (Cross River), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), and elder statesman Jerry Gana.

The meeting focused on resolving internal divisions within the party and laying the groundwork for a more united front as the 2027 elections approach.

A key outcome of the discussions was the formation of a seven-member reconciliation and strategy committee. The committee is chaired by former Senate President Bukola Saraki and includes members such as Seriake Dickson, Ibrahim Dankwambo, and other ex-governors from Plateau and Abia states.

The committee’s immediate task is to coordinate preparations for a peaceful and productive National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, scheduled for May 27.

This meeting highlights the PDP’s renewed efforts to rebuild cohesion within its ranks and position itself as a strong opposition party in the coming election cycle.
