The Federal Fire Service has confirmed that a fire truck driver involved in a deadly crash that killed three teenagers in Abuja has been handed over to the police.

The accident occurred around 11:00 PM on Friday in the Wuse 2 area, as the fire truck was returning from a firefighting operation at Avenue Plaza in Banex. It lost control and rammed into a group of teenagers, killing three on the spot and leaving another critically injured.

In a statement on Sunday, FCT Fire Service Controller Momodu Ganiyu described the incident as “heartbreaking and painful beyond words,” and extended condolences to the victims’ families.

“All officers on duty at the time have been suspended pending the outcome of a full investigation,” Ganiyu said, adding that the service is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

The lone survivor is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory. The tragedy has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed demands for stricter safety protocols for emergency response drivers
