The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the ongoing reconstruction of the Abuja–Port Harcourt Road by June 2026, according to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

Speaking during an inspection of the project, Umahi emphasized that the road is a key priority under the administration’s infrastructure agenda and plays a vital role in connecting the Federal Capital Territory to the southeastern region of the country.

“We are fully committed to delivering this project on time. Any contractor who delays or fails to meet expectations will face serious consequences, including contract termination,” the minister warned.

The Abuja–Port Harcourt Road is a major economic corridor, crucial for the movement of goods and people between the north and the south. Its completion is expected to significantly improve travel time, reduce transport costs, and boost economic activities along the route.

Umahi acknowledged the progress made so far but directed contractors to intensify efforts to ensure timely delivery. He also called for public support and cooperation as the government pushes forward with its Renewed Hope Infrastructure Revolution.

As the June 2026 deadline approaches, the ministry has assured stakeholders of transparency, accountability, and a firm resolve to meet the target.
