The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated eight utility vehicles to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to enhance its health emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

At a brief handover ceremony in Abuja, WHO Country Representative, Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, said the donation is part of the SURGE initiative — Strengthening and Utilising Response Groups for Emergencies — designed to improve rapid health intervention during crisis situations.

Dr. Mulombo noted that the vehicles will boost the FCT’s capacity to swiftly deploy emergency response teams, deliver essential supplies, and reach affected communities more efficiently.

He also revealed that the FCT is one of six states selected to pilot the SURGE project in Nigeria, positioning it as a key hub in the country’s health crisis response system.

FCT health authorities welcomed the donation, describing it as a timely and critical step toward strengthening the territory’s ability to manage disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.
