Two herders have been apprehended by local vigilantes at the Abaji cattle market in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for allegedly attempting to sell a stolen ram.
According to Salihu Usman, a member of the vigilante group, the suspects arrived at the market on a motorcycle with the ram, unaware that traders had been alerted about the theft.
“The owner reported to us that his ram was stolen from Bugakwo village in Kwali,” Usman said. “We alerted traders in the market and, by divine coincidence, the suspects showed up with the ram.”
The rightful owner was promptly called in and positively identified the ram. The suspects were subsequently handed over to security operatives in the area.
This is the second livestock theft incident at the Abaji market in recent days, following a similar arrest involving a stolen goat.
While police in Abaji confirmed the arrest, FCT Police spokesperson CSP Josephine Adeh is yet to release an official statement.
