President Bola Tinubu has laid before the National Assembly a whopping ₦1.78 trillion budget for the Federal Capital Territory, urging lawmakers to fast-track its approval to sustain critical development across Abuja.
The proposal, delivered via a letter read on the House floor by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on Tuesday, outlines Tinubu’s vision for accelerated growth in the capital city.
According to the president, the budget prioritizes health, social services, agriculture, infrastructure, and job creation.
A massive 85 percent of the budget is devoted to completing ongoing infrastructure projects, while the remaining 15 percent targets fresh interventions aimed at improving living standards in the territory.
“This proposal is in line with Section 299 of the Constitution. I urge the Honourable House to consider and pass it without delay, for the benefit of the people of the FCT,” Tinubu appealed.
Analysts say the budget signals Tinubu’s intent to make Abuja a model for urban development, with strategic investments expected to stimulate economic activity and improve service delivery.
The ball is now in the lawmakers’ court, as FCT residents and stakeholders await swift legislative action on the ambitious fiscal plan.
