In celebration of World Malaria Day 2025, The Skilled Women Initiative (TSWINI) has distributed treated mosquito nets to 50 families in the Guzape community of the Federal Capital Territory.
During the outreach held on Friday, TSWINI’s Programme Officer, Angela Okafor, said the initiative was aimed at promoting health education, mental wellness, and community empowerment with a special focus on women.
“Women are the backbone of families, caring for children, husbands, and even neighbours. Keeping them healthy means strengthening the entire community,” Okafor said.
She noted that frequent visits to Guzape revealed poor environmental conditions, including waterlogged areas, which fueled the decision to host the programme.
Okafor also appealed for more support from the government and private sector to expand their reach, especially in underserved rural areas
“We need more resources and financial support to help more people,” she added. Two recipients, Mrs Patience John and Mrs Doris James, expressed their appreciation, describing the nets as life-saving.
“Now I can sleep peacefully under a mosquito net. It will keep mosquitoes away from my bed and home. May God bless TSWINI,” they said.
TSWINI remains committed to raising awareness on health and mental wellness, empowering women, and supporting vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
