Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has met behind closed doors with striking staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in a bid to resolve the ongoing industrial action.
The meeting, which took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, comes after NiMet workers downed tools over issues ranging from poor welfare conditions and delayed allowances to stalled promotions and lack of working tools.
Though details of the discussion remain undisclosed, sources close to the meeting say Keyamo appealed for calm and assured workers that their grievances are being reviewed with urgency.
The strike, which has affected weather monitoring services nationwide, has raised concerns about potential impacts on aviation safety and disaster preparedness.
NiMet union leaders have expressed willingness to continue dialogue but insist that tangible steps must be taken to address their demands before any return to work.
