In a surprising move, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), conducted an unannounced visit to Idu Train Station in Abuja on Monday to evaluate critical issues with its water and power systems. The station, a vital hub on the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor, has faced recent service disruptions due to a collapsed water system, which significantly affected toilet operations.

Following the visit, Opeifa took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to share updates on the situation. He confirmed that the NRC engineering team had successfully implemented a temporary solution, noting, “The toilet was clean and flushed,” which marked a positive step toward restoring full functionality.

During his inspection, Opeifa explained that the power supply had been intentionally shut down to manage diesel consumption, as the national grid was not supplying electricity.

He commended the swift response and collaboration among the NRC’s civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, who were mobilized to address the situation. This visit underscores a renewed commitment from NRC leadership to enhance service quality and promptly tackle any lapses that may impact the passenger experience.
