Hon. Ibraheem Bolarinwa Oyekunle, a former House of Representatives aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has escaped what he describes as an assassination attempt in Abuja.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 4, when Oyekunle was returning from the airport and stopped at Gwosa Market along Airport Road to purchase fruits.

According to his statement, he noticed a suspicious ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with concealed number plates parked nearby. Several armed men emerged from the vehicle, surrounded him, and demanded he surrender while pointing guns at him.

“They pointed guns at me. Another man was already in front of me with a gun aimed at my head. I instinctively knocked him down, which caused confusion among the others, and they opened fire,” Oyekunle stated.

He managed to escape by fleeing into the crowd of panicked traders amid the gunfire.

Oyekunle, who contested in the 2023 general elections for the Irewole/Isokan/Ayedaade Federal Constituency of Osun State, is now calling on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
