FCT Police Arrest Three Suspected Car Thieves, Recover Two Stolen Vehicles
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three men for stealing cars and recovered two stolen vehicles during a successful operation in Abuja.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday.
She explained that the case began on April 11, 2025, when officers from the Durumi Police Division received a distress call about a stolen gold Toyota Corolla (2005 model), with plate number KUJ 208 DA.
Acting fast, police tracked the vehicle to a workshop in Durumi, where it was found in the middle of being repainted. The suspects were trying to change its colour to avoid detection and resell it.
During the search, another stolen car β a red Toyota Corolla with plate number GWA 844 CK β was also found. This car had earlier been reported missing from a home in Jikwoyi.
Police arrested three suspects at the workshop:
- Steven Musa
- David Dalyol (a painter)
- Ibrahim Mohammed (a mechanic)
The suspects later confessed to being part of a car theft group. According to police, the gang has been stealing cars in areas including Wuse, Central Area, Jikwoyi, and Bwari. They would repaint the cars and sell them as βnewerβ models.
The suspects are now in custody and will be charged to court after the investigation.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, has advised car owners to install tracking devices and security systems to help police recover stolen vehicles faster.
The police also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity by calling these numbers:
