Abuja Public School in Poor Shape as Pupils Struggle to Learn

A recent visit to LEA Primary School Barwa, located behind Gosa Market along Airport Road in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), has revealed a very sad and disturbing sight.

The school, which is meant to give children in the area a chance for a good education, is in a very bad condition. Classrooms are old and broken, many windows are without glass, and some walls are cracked and unsafe. During rainfall, water leaks into the classrooms, making it impossible for children to sit and learn.

It was also observed that many pupils do not have desks or chairs. Some children sit on the floor, while others are forced to stand during lessons. The teachers are also struggling, as the school lacks teaching materials, writing boards, and even enough space for proper classes.

One parent who spoke about the situation said:
“It breaks my heart to see children learning in such a poor condition. This is not what we expected from a school in the Federal Capital Territory.”

Many people in the community are now begging the government to help. They are asking the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) and other responsible agencies to quickly renovate the school and provide basic materials so that the children can learn in a safe and comfortable environment.

The poor state of LEA Primary School Barwa is another sad example of how public schools in some parts of Abuja are being forgotten, even as education is meant to be a top priority for the country’s development.

Parents, teachers, and community leaders are now calling for quick action before the school becomes unsafe for both pupils and staff.
