Abuja, Nigeria – April 10, 2025

The House of Representatives Committee on Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has voiced concerns regarding the engineering designs and financial transparency of road projects undertaken by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). During an oversight visit, the committee inspected key road projects, including the 15-kilometre A2-Pai Road and the 11-kilometre Yangoji-Sukuku Road, both located in the Kwali Area Council and part of the FCTA’s emergency development interventions.

Committee Chairman, Hon. Frederick Agbedi, raised questions about the adequacy of the engineering designs and the lack of detailed cost breakdowns for these projects. He emphasized the importance of comprehensive documentation, including engineering plans, financial allocations, and design clarity, to ensure the projects meet expected standards and are executed efficiently.

“The public deserves transparency, especially when taxpayer funds are involved,” Agbedi stated. “We need to ensure that every step of these projects is properly documented, and that the design and costs align with the needs of the communities.”

The committee has demanded that the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) submit all relevant documentation, including detailed project plans and cost breakdowns, to its secretariat by Monday, April 14, 2025, for further review. This move is part of a broader effort by the committee to ensure accountability and enhance oversight in the implementation of infrastructure projects across the FCTA.

In response, the FCTA has expressed its commitment to providing the necessary documents and ensuring that all projects meet the required engineering standards.

This scrutiny from the legislative body underscores its commitment to the effective use of public funds and ensuring that all infrastructure projects serve the people as intended.
