Nigeria’s U-20 national football team, the Flying Eagles, have returned to Abuja to continue their preparations for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to kick off on April 27 in Cairo, Egypt.

Head coach Aliyu Zubairu has called up a provisional squad of 35 players, which includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, ten midfielders, and fourteen forwards. These players will vie for spots in the final 21-man squad that will represent Nigeria at the continental tournament.

The team had earlier wrapped up a three-week intensive training camp in Katsina, and now shifts focus to Abuja for the second phase of their build-up. This stage is expected to focus on tactical refinement, team chemistry, and fitness evaluations ahead of the final squad announcement.

The Flying Eagles, seven-time winners of the U-20 AFCON, are aiming for a strong performance that will not only bring glory to the nation but also secure a FIFA U-20 World Cup ticket. Reaching the semi-final stage in Egypt will guarantee Nigeria a place at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The squad is scheduled to depart for Egypt next week for their final round of preparations before the tournament begins.
